I had the pleasure of knowing Dave for over 20 years and becoming a personal friend outside of work. He was the kindest, most thoughtful, modest man I have ever met and it is a privilege to have known him. Dave never had a bad word for anybody and was inspirational as a human being, often sacrificing himself for his family - like the many nights of swimming galas; and giving up his West Ham season ticket to spend more time with his young family. He was often like a brother to me, and we confided about many things during our various trips around the world to countries such as Mexico, France, America, Germany and Montenegro. As we all know, he liked a glass or two of red wine and appreciated the good things in life, but he always maintained his professionalism, sense of humour and dignity. Even in the last few weeks, he showed great concern and prayed for members of my family when they were in hospital when he was so clearly suffering himself. That was the mark of the man. The fact that since his passing so many people in the insurance market have used expressions like - real gentleman, great loss, shocked, saddened, always had time for everyone, super guy, incredibly brave - speaks volumes about Dave, the person and Dave, the underwriter. He was highly respected and loved by everyone in the insurance market and by many major clients around the world. I have fond memories of our many trips and nights out together, as well as our recent holiday along with Jan to Tenerife. I will always associate Dave with happiness and laughter. He will be sorely missed..... but never forgotten. Rest in peace, mate x
